Lynn Altass presentation on Tuberculosis in Enfield
At the Forum's meeting in June 2004 Lynn Altass, North Central London
tuberculosis Network Manager gave a full and informative presentation on the
causes, risks and treatment of the disease in Enfield. Her full report is
available as a PDF file download from this site.
TB
is usually caused by bacteria called mycobacterium tuberculosis. There are
other mycobacterial infections including mycobacterium bovis (bovine TB), which
cause tuberculosis. It is curable but if left untreated 50% of people with it
die. However 6% people infected with TB die in Enfield and this is why it is important to
ensure that people know that it is curable and that the drugs to treat it are
free when given by the hospital.
